 THOUGHTS ON
OUT MACROBIOTIC ASSOCIATION

Dear members,

Our Macrobiotic Association has become an organisation which represents the teachings of macrobiotics globally. Ultimately the M.A. is dedicated to raising the shared consciousness of humanity through mindful self-development.

Looking back over the years the macrobiotic way has quietly influenced diversity of alternative thought into society. In the mid 1970’s I listened to my first lecture by Michio Kushi in London and was immediately mesmerized by the extraordinary content of knowledge he revealed. At that time, I recall a simplicity in Michio’s teaching where there was no complex narrative, partly due to his Japanese heritage, but also his carefully chosen sparse choice of words and to the descriptive illustrations chalked onto a blackboard. The range of topics to me then was astounding, the energetics of foods, the spirallic movement of galaxies, meridians of the body, facial diagnosis, shiatsu, the development of sickness and palm healing to name but a few. Some of those, then peripheral teachings, are now mainstream. The message then was simple but made a lot of sense.

Now 50 years on and the primary message continues; encouraging individual responsibility for one’s life and an understanding that we are not separate from all living beings and our natural environment. To regard our body as a temple and invite all to move into a higher vibrational way of eating emphasising plant foods as a primary source hereby supporting physical health, and the spiritual journey, as recommended by the original teachings of George Ohsawa and other messengers of wisdom.

More recently, with the collective input and brainstorming of numerous experienced M.A. members, the “Macrobiotic Ethos” was created. This ethos promotes an optimistic mindset, critical thinking, and skill enhancement through activities, including cooking, movement and creativity. Education and coaching are integral components, empowering individuals to embrace the macrobiotic approach with openness to a lasting transformation thus making the point of entry into this universal knowledge more easily accessable

Our growing, global macrobiotic network aims to awaken humanity to the beneficial attributes of such a lifestyle and ultimately suggests useful guidelines for societies and nations with the goal of achieving lasting peace through harmonious engagement.

During these colourful autumn days I reflect on how rich my life has become with the discovery of macrobiotics.
