Letter from MBA Chairperson

We hope that you are staying well during this time of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our heart goes out to all those affected by the virus, and we are deeply grateful to all those working hard to save lives as well as to those making sure that we have food and all the other essential services that we need.

Although we face many restrictions now, there are positive ways to use this time well.  Some of us will be able to use this time to simplify our lives, to slow down, rest, and to look after ourselves in ways that before we may have been too busy to do. And we can take the opportunity to think about what is truly important to us and how much we have to be grateful for.

It is more important now than ever to make sure that our health is good. For this, we need to eat well, exercise well, sleep well, and stay peaceful and positive.

As well as strengthening our physical health with regular exercise and good food, we need to stay strong and grounded mentally and emotionally. Having a daily practice can help us to do this – yoga, singing, chanting, chi-gong and meditation are all great. Spending time outside in nature, deep breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the sunshine connects us directly with the healing energy of nature. And we can take the time to appreciate the beauty and wonder of the natural world around us.

This could also be a time when we can get creative with art, crafts, music, or writing or perhaps start an online course, using this time to gain new knowledge and skills.

Good food makes the foundation of good health. By using our macrobiotic cooking skills, we can make simple, enjoyable, balanced meals every day using whole grains, vegetables, beans and bean products (like tofu and tempeh), sea vegetables, seeds, nuts and fruits. Chewing food really well is key and so is avoiding the foods (and drinks) that are harmful and weakening for our health.

There are many special dishes, medicinal drinks, herbs and teas that can give us extra support should we need it. Our Professional Counsellors are happy to offer Skype or Zoom sessions giving advice and specific recommendations, or online cooking instruction. Please look on our website www.macrobiotics.org.uk/practitioners

If now is a good time for you to learn more about the macrobiotic approach to health, several of our teachers are offering their courses and trainings at:  www.macrobiotics.org.uk/courses-events-calendar/

Let us work together for a more peaceful, sustainable and healthy world – it could be amazing!

Love,
Marion Price, Chairperson, on behalf of the Macrobiotic Association
