188, Old Street, London, was a fine building, home to the Community Health Foundation, 1976 – 1999, providing courses and teachings on personal health and environmental health. It had an extraordinary bookshop, vegetarian restaurant, nursery, and wholefood store next door. Thousands of people attended. I was one. This was education for self, society and planet. Practical, thoughtful, dynamic, it was respectful of the Universe.

On the wall opposite the reception desk in the entrance area were five simple posters describing the principles of the Foundation’s work, written by Bill Tara, founder and director. Here is a short excerpt:

“The importance of a proper diet has been lost in our society. Food is the most basic element in establishing good health, and it is the source of our physical well-being. Food provides the basic elements for our blood, which is the source of vitality and nourishment for every cell in the body. The provision of a nutritious diet is both economical and the best step we can take to prevent the onset of illness and provide a biological base for unity and harmony.”

Thank you for writing this book Bill – it is needed NOW! I’m going

to send it far and wide.
