ASPARAGUS TIPS

Asparagus, in season now, is particularly rich in soluble fibre, a fabulous food (prebiotic) for your existing good gut bacteria. It’s best eaten raw, rather than cooked, to make the most of this valuable fibre. Slice finely or use a mandolin and marinade the slices and tips in a dressing of lemon juice, oil and mustard or fresh garlic for an hour or two. Then mix into salads or enjoy it on its own. Fermenters might want to ferment whole spears for about 3 days in a 2% brine mix. Spears will remain crunchy if you add a couple of horseradish leaves. Once fermented, keep in the fridge and enjoy on the side of any dish.

GET ENERGISED

Enjoy stretching Liver and Gall Bladder meridians (energy channels); fabulous for this time of year.  Place your feet wide apart, toes forward. On an outbreath bring your right arm up to the ceiling and over your head. Take your left hand down your left leg. Look up to the ceiling and enjoy the opening through your side and the stretch on the inside of your legs. Come up slowly and repeat on the other side.

GROW YOUR OWN

Growing herbs at home is relatively easy. Plant seeds in pots or window-boxes to create your own herb garden.

SPROUT BEANS & SEEDS

Sprout mung beans and other beans and seeds for your own ultra-fresh sprouts. Add to soups and stir-fries towards the end of cooking.

TAKE A WALK IN NATURE

Walking through this field of exuberantly flowering rape seeds (it could have been barley, meadow flowers or any other) we were embraced by its energy, by the sun and fresh air. In turn it elevated our energies, circulation, mood and endowed us with natural feel-good factors – joy, breath, wellbeing – that so often elude us in everyday living. We felt grounded in reality, worlds away from that intellectual stress cloud of “internet fever”.
